Before downloading
The official APK requires Android 7.1 (API 25) or newer. Android 7.0 and older are unsupported; 7.1–8.1 meets the minimum but still needs vehicle testing. Record the car, Android, DiLink and firmware versions, and confirm that the head unit permits APK installation.
Use DiPlay-0.2.19.apk from the official release and check file integrity. A website download collection supplies files; opening or downloading it does not automatically install an app on the car.
Installation and in-place updates
Use the installation method supported by the head unit. The official package is com.shihab.diplay. Keeping settings and pairing requires the same package/variant and a matching signing certificate; the filename alone proves neither. Third-party adaptations are separate release lines.
If an update is refused, check the installed variant before removing it and save any reports you need. ADB is not a basic runtime requirement, although some firmware installation methods or optional features need it.
First connection
Allow the permissions requested for the features you use: Bluetooth/Nearby devices, Wi-Fi/Location on older Android, microphone for Siri/calls and notifications. Close other projection apps and keep iPhone Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on.
The default is the actual car hotspot. Wi-Fi Direct, Same LAN and USB have their own conditions. Check picture, touch, music, navigation, Siri and calls separately.
Updates and reports
Official GitHub update checks and downloads require network access. About offers update controls; a download requires a tap and Android handles installation.
Reproduce problems on 0.2.19, then use Settings → Diagnostics → Save diagnostic report. Android 7.1–9 requests storage access and can save to Downloads/DiPlay; Android 10+ normally uses that folder. Choose a location if needed. Follow the confirmation for app-external/private fallback storage and View report/Share. Review the report and omit hotspot passwords; nothing uploads automatically.
